The Staffordshire Branch of the Korean Friendship Association celebrates the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. On December 12th, 2000 formal bilateral relatons were formed with the DPRK by the UK after decades of hostility by the British Government towards Peoples Korea.
Twenty years of diplomatic relations have allowed for the promotion of trade, cultural and tourist ties between the peoples of the UK and the DPRK. A big boost to this process of reconciliation was the opening of the Embassy of the DPR Korea in London in April 2003. Recently the UK Government has been acting in bad faith with the announcement of further punitive measures aimed at the DPRK in the shape of the “sanctions under global human rights regime”. The Staffordshire branch of the KFA calls upon the UK Government to abandon all these discriminatory and counter-productive schemes and sanctions, and instead work for better relations with the DPRK, to strive for peace in Korea and for Korean reunfication.
The Staffordshire Branch of the Korean Friendship Association wants to take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of UK-DPRK relations to be one where there is increased links in all areas between the British and the Korean people such as culture, the economy and tourism. For our part, the activists of the Staffordshire KFA will redouble our determination to cement solidarity with the Korean people in every possible way. Work for better, peaceful and more cooperative relations between the UK and the DPRK and join the Korean Friendship Association today!!
Korea Is One!
