“The great confidence to fight once determined and win a victory without fail and the resolute determination to resist strength with strength and contain arms with arms–these are the dispositions of Comrade Kim Jong Il as an illustrious commander, who made the Korean people victors in the cold war today.”

–From an article written by Victor Kulikov, former First Vice-Minister of Defense of the then USSR and

General Commander of the Warsaw Treaty Joint Army–

The great leader Kim Jong Il was an ever-victorious, iron-willed brilliant commander who defended the destiny of the country and nation and socialism.

The world still remembers the 1990s when dark clouds of a nuclear war were hanging heavily over the Korean peninsula.

Intoxicated all the more after the end of the cold war, the US imperialists came out with so-called “nuclear issue” and made vicious efforts to isolate and stifle the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and collapse its system.

An international anti-DPRK “nuclear suspicion” racket was led by the United States, “special inspection” of nuclear facilities of the DPRK forced, the large-scale “Team Spirit” joint military exercise simulating a nuclear war conducted and nuclear attacking means and aggressive armed forces committed to the Korean peninsula in 1993. All these were planned provocative war moves of the US imperialists against the DPRK.

Lecturer Ri Jong Sun at the Korean Revolution Museum said Kim Jong Il confidently led the DPRK-US nuclear confrontation to successive victories in the grim period and continued:

“The great Kim Jong Il made a bombshell declaration that the Korean people who value independence of the nation and peace of the country do not want a war but they will not beg for peace even with their dignity trampled down and the enemy cannot touch an inch of land and a blade of grass in the DPRK, giving conviction of victory to the people and dealing a telling blow to the enemy.

On the other hand, he saw to it that strong countermeasures were taken against the reckless moves of the United States intensifying military threat to and pressure on the DPRK with the ‘nuclear issue’.

In March 1993, a semi-war state was declared to the whole country, all the people and the entire army as an order of the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army and a statement of the DPRK government issued that the DPRK was withdrawn from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In submission to our toughest countermeasures, the United States had to adopt the DPRK-US talks and the US President sent a letter of assurance to the DPRK.

The DPRK succeeded in two nuclear tests and convinced the whole world of our counteraction that when the enemy draw a knife, we draw a sword and when the former aims a rifle, we take an aim with a gun.”

The imperialists’ offensive of pressure on the DPRK was baffled thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il with strategy of victory and matchless courage and confidence.
